1. As a result of action taken by the Foreign Office, to whom a copy of your savingram was sent, the following reply has been received from the Vatican Secretariat of State.

They sympathise with Hong Kong Governments difficulties with overcrowding and appreciate their courtesy in present case. They have no desire to leave Chinese refugee priests idle in Hong Kong, but on the contrary wish to put them to work elsewhere as soon as possible. They are obstructed by the fact that Formosa and the Philippines, the obvious places, are already crowded, but they will do their best.
